The reason for ‘first day on cam’ nerves is this: feeling nervous is the body’s natural reaction to the unknown. In most cases, this fear is mostly due to not being prepared. Things that are straightforward to do and learn can seem overwhelming if information not available. How to set up a profile, how to go online, what to look for and how to engage an audience… These are basic training requirements that should be covered prior to going online. Unfamiliar territory can bring a host of anxieties based on fears over things that have not yet happened (and may not happen). COMMON FIRST DAY ANXIETIES What if I don’t make any money?” What if someone is mean to me?” What if something happens and I don’t know how to deal with it?” If you’re thinking these thoughts, don’t worry, it’s perfectly rational and you are not alone! This is why a support network is essential. HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR FIRST DAY ON CAM Navigate the performer account Most cam site interfaces are not as complicated as they might look on a first glance. Take some time to click through each screen, read and understand. If it’s a good site, it will be user-friendly. Group chats, forums and social media networking groups are universal things on most cam sites. Ask the site admin or your agency how you can join these. These groups are where you’ll find like-minded models who, like you, were once brand new and nervous. Connecting with other models who have been through the same motions is invaluable. You can draw on their experience, share your worries and have your mind put at ease. “My Lovense is not working, how can I fix it?” A camgirl’s biggest irritation: When the interactive toy purchased to help her make money, is not interactive. This troubler shooter advice is relevant only to Lovense toys operated via the Lovense Connect smartphone app . This is not applicable to the Lovense browser. CHECK THESE BASICS 1. Is your smartphone compatible with Lovense Connect? Not all models of phones are compatible, check the latest information on compatible devices here under App Download – Compatible With. 2. Is the toy fully charged, and switched on? Sorry if this is stating the obvious… You need to charge the toy fully and make sure it is switched on. 3. Do you have a strong Wifi signal to your smartphone? Lovense toys will only work if there is a strong WiFi signal and the toy is in range. NOTE : The smartphone must be on the same Wifi network as your laptop. ALSO NOTE: Lovense Connect will not work on 4G data. 4. Is your Bluetooth enabled? Lovense toys rely on Bluetooth to interact with cam sites. They have inbuilt Bluetooth receivers. Make sure the Bluetooth is switched on in the smartphone settings, and is discoverable. Check your toy is recognised in your phone’s Bluetooth connections and shows as connected. 5. Is your toy connected correctly in Lovense Connect? Go here and follow these setup steps. Note these are the instructions for CamSoda, which is the network we work with. If you work on another site, please ask their model tech support team if they have specific guidelines to help you integrate Lovense Connect correctly with the site. Make sure you are running the most up to date version of Lovense Connect. If in doubt, delete and reinstall the app. FURTHER ACTION STEPS 1. Give your smartphone a hard reboot. The method of doing this will vary dependent on the make of phone. Usually it’s a press and long hold of the on/off button, with some phones its a swipe. If not sure, do a Google search under your phone’s make and model and research how to do a ‘hard reboot.’ A hard reboot clears any bugs and restarts the Lovense Connect app. The action resolves the issue in 95% of cases where all of the basic steps above are also satisfied. 2. Is the firmware up to date? Check if there is a Lovense firmware update that has not automatically updated. This will be in Lovense Remote app. You will need to log out of Lovense Connect before logging onto Lovense Remote. Hit the ‘me’ icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, then select ‘Settings.’ You will see any available firmware in this screen, it’ll say ‘firmware update’. Select and let the app do its thing, then reboot the phone. 3. Could it be a firewall issue? It is possible that the Connect app is blocked within the broadband router supplied by your internet provider. Unfortunately some routers block access to apps they are not familiar with. Call your internet provider to resolve. If they cannot provide a solution or you want to save yourself the awkwardness of calling them, upgrade the router yourself. Purchase one that’s powerful and not controlled by a broadband service provider. In my experience, Netgear routers are badass for camming, and Lovense-friendly. As an example, the Nighthawk has always worked faultlessly for me. This model is one of the more budget-friendly routers in their range. 4. Is your toy simply old, or broken? Your toy has reached it’s end of life. This it likely the case if it used to buzz on tips, but does not any longer. Sometimes components inside fail or break with wear and tear. You could expect to get 2-3 years use out of a Lovense toy providing you take good care of it. 5. If the Lovense is still not working and you can’t fix it… fake it! At the end of the day, don’t fret too much! Providing the tips are registered by your site, you get paid regardless! Do your best porn star moans, act along and have fun! Stay sharp checking your user chat area to not miss the tip prompts. Missing tip prompts upsets users and they leave the room. They want to see their tips showing you a good time! PRACTICAL THINGS TO CHECK Completed your profile setup ? – Add your bio, stats, settings, rates, tip features, profile images and payout info. Start only when all of this is done and approved! Room tidy? – Be well-organised and clutter-free. A nice looking room will make you appear professional and it is pleasing on the eyes to the viewers. Set up for best framing? – Great camera view is important. You want to show off your most flattering angles. Set up your work station and angle the webcam so you can look directly into it. This enables you to connect your audience with eye contact and encourages interaction from them. Clear of any distractions? Make sure any pets in the house are fed and watered. Deal with anything else that might otherwise disturb you if not taken care of. Eliminate any annoying background noise. Music playlists ready? – You’ll need music to help create an atmosphere. Use a speaker if you have one, but do not have the music too loud. Your viewers will want to listen to your voice moreso than your music. Do you spend hours every week making content, uploading to your page and promoting on social media? If yes, read on… From experience, I know creating content and building a fans page can take a lot of time out of your day. Once you have it all made, it looks amazing! You’re proud of it and want to show it off. People may look, but do they commit? You need to get subscribers. Sure, you can try shouting about it on Instagram, X, TikTok and other social media channels. That’s great!… If you have 1M followers on those platforms. Even at that level, it is a numbers game. Followers can be flaky, even invisible. The vast majority of social media followers are not willing or able to pay to see content. Many are not even genuine accounts. The social media channels are awash with waste-of-space profiles. Many fake or spam accounts, others just scrolling or lurking. There is no value to these followers. They have no attention or understanding. For this reason it is not easy to gain subscribers to your fans page from social media, as it can be hard to find genuine fans. Out of those social followers who are genuine and understand what its all about, some will join for a snoop. They’ll sub’ one time for a month to see what’s on offer, then don’t bother to renew. Winning fans’ pledges for monthly subs is the arduous part of building a successful fans page. Without getting monthly commitment, it barely seems worth the hassle. You end up feeling undervalued for your time and effort. Many models attempt to get subscribers to their fans page by offering it subscription free. How they make their money, is they drive creators to bring them the fans. They earn their commission for the privilege of creators bringing the business to them . These sites ultimately rely on influencers and celebrities to fund a vast percentage of fans payments to their site. Big name creators advertise their fans pages which raises greater awareness of the brand. As a result the creator sites gain member signups along with more creators, who then bring them more member signups and attract more creators. It is a very clever business model. Unfortunately, those members signups brought in by influencer creators do not benefit the unknown creator who starts at the bottom. Newbies have have to build their presence by finding their own fans. It can take years to get to “influencer” level and still, most will never make it. Usually this involves a lucky break. HOW TO GET SUBSCRIBERS TO YOUR FANS PAGE Join a platform that brings the fans to you ! Being a successful creator is not just about creating high quality content. It is about being a great salesperson too. We know that face-to-face marketing works, as people buy from people. You can meet genuine fans on a platform with all the tools that do everything a creator site does… which has traffic! Do these things: Join the right platform (I’ll help you with this at the end of this article). Position yourself in a live chat scenario and meet your subscribers face to face, online. This way, you directly engage them. Chat, let them get to know the face behind the photos. Be personable and charm them. Unleash your powers of persuasion by upselling your fans page – simply, talk about what’s on offer there. Offer them a joining gift or incentive such as an introductory discount. The continual threat of fraudsters out to make a quick buck is a problem that will never go away. As well as the possibility of financial loss, the integrity and reputation of a well-established model or influencer is at stake. In 2023, Honey was victim of a textbook catfish scam. She was duped by a follower who claimed to have experience in helping creators build their profiles. They contacted her through X to offer help to increase her revenue potential. All the while, stealing her content and pocketing profits under a fake profile. "This follower on my X said they wanted to help build my page. I discovered later that the whole time they were pretending to be me on another account they had set up, with content they had stolen from my X. They were scamming my fans, getting them to pay for stuff they then never got. You can imagine the headaches this caused when fans were messaging, on my case about stuff I knew nothing about. It took time to put the record straight and make them understand that it wasn’t me, it was the scammers." What exactly happened in this case is this: content and video calls were promoted on the fake Honey Martinez profile with payment links to the scammer. They even hacked into Honey’s legitimate profile, changing her password which made it impossible for her to access it to warn fans about what was going on. "It was so stressful, I reported this to X and got friends and fans to report it also. It took quite a long time to get the fake page taken down. In the end I went to an agency that takes down stolen content and they got it removed pretty quickly." PROTECT YOURSELF ON SOCIAL MEDIA Most models and creators would love to gain 100k in 6 months, just like Honey Martinez. We know that engaging fans on socials can boost revenue. We also know mass exposure attracts the of shady behaviour of catfishers and other scammers. So if you want to start you own campaign to gain 100k followers in 6 months… protect yourself: Watermark all content with your logo, username and/or the name of the site which hosts the content. This way, if it gets stolen, you can prove where it originated from for any copyright claims. Do not respond to randoms who claim they will help you build your following or monetize content. In every case these approaches are scams. It is best not to follow back everyone who follows, as this enables them easy access to message and be a nuisance. Do not open any links that followers attempt to send you via tweet or DM. Consider making social media private, and request to follow. While it is less easy to gain mass following this way, it does tighten privacy and security. Consider working with a content protection agency to remove any stolen content and impersonation accounts. I’m Amara and I’m here to share how I’ve found my first 6 months as a live camgirl. I started my journey into webcamming in January 2024, having lost my job following a probation period. On the same day as losing my job, I was also supposed to do my annual re-registration in my profession. I decided against that, having been working almost six years in my career and ultimately unhappy. Being creative, likely neurodivergent and with a rebellious side I could not exercise in my career, the corporate world just did not suit me. I played with the idea of switching to another career and industry and even upskilled to apply for other roles. This will sound familiar to a lot of people. After a period of applying and knowing that I could not pretend to care anymore, I decided against going back into an office environment. I was so certain it would not work for me and would do anything to avoid going back. Needs must so I started doing newspaper rounds to cover the bills immediately. In terms of longer term work, I knew I needed something that fulfilled the wild side that has always been there. I began looking into adult entertainment and went on Tiktok to look for information about becoming a stripper. I was keen to hear from black women in the industry, and what works for them. REACHING OUT Someone caught my eye on Tiktok so I messaged her for advice. She was kind enough to reach out send me some information. The info led me to a site called ‘Laptastic’ which is a lapdancing agency. It is there I saw an affiliate company ‘ LVE Models .’ I had heard about webcam modelling at a younger age. The ability to work for myself from home were the first things that struck a chord with me. This was the very type of opportunity I had been looking for. After doing research, I saw that LVE Models offer mentoring and no prior experience was needed. I liked the information they presented online and watched their model video testimonials. I approached them and they were very responsive and helpful. There has been no bullshit when it comes to LVE Models, they are real people. I have truly been guided and supported. My confidence has grown and I am enjoying interacting with customers from a positive stance. Having fun makes camming more worthwhile and helps motivate me on days were I’m not feeling best. A huge learning curve in how to overcome hurdles and practice patience, as camming takes a lot of that. I’m enjoying caring for myself, getting up with a purpose and making myself up. Having to look good on cam forces me make the effort, so I feel good about about my appearance each day. I’ve also really enjoyed challenging myself by adding content creation to my bow. I set up an X account so I’m pushing my content through social media and building my following there. HIGH TIMES Winning the $500 bonus prize in a competition for gaining the most followers between March – April! This has been my greatest moment so far! Most recently I had a supporter request a Lovense toy wishlist! The additional toys have really boosted my streams. This came at a really good time and my goal going forward is to push my targets further with this. I have already had the opportunity to fulfil some of my goals through webcamming. Being able to pick my location, take time for myself and become a lot happier, all these things for the win! I am also able to be flexible with my hours and choose when I work. This works really well as I have other interests and like getting involved in other projects. I find camming to be the most liberating job I’ve ever done. Camming, like anything, only works well if you’re consistent. Try different times of the day, different outfits, personas and positions to work out what fits you best.  Take regular breaks if you find you cannot work longer sessions. Camming can be draining. Slow room? Worry not, it won't last forever! I am here to offer some guidance on camming during summer holiday season . The summer season, which for northern hemisphere continents runs May to September; can bring challenges for consistency on cam sites. Understandably when schools, colleges and universities are on shutdown, this is the height of holiday season. What this means for the camming world is the peaks and lulls in overall expenditure can be more noticeable. As a result, many cam models find they make less money than they would during the known lucrative times. The typical lucrative times include the spring and the run up to Christmas, when folks are home and in their normal routine of work. Sure, there are always non-interactive members and guests hanging around for free shows on “freemium” sites, all year round. There is always “traffic.” It is the quality of this traffic, including its tendency to be interactive and monetising , that can be hit and miss. Some weeks feel slow and painful, other weeks are more profitable. This can be frustrating as it is not always predictable. Understandably, with lack of consistency, many cam models have less desire to work online and be consistent themselves. Declining motivation translates to a diminished desire to log on. At this point many models come to me for motivation, finding camming tedious and asking what they can do to improve the situation. For those who don’t come to me, I am mindful and reach out to the models who go quiet at this time of year. My concern is, that the situation affects their self-esteem and productivity which has a knock-on effect on their financial situation. YOU ARE NOT ALONE Please be assured if you’re experiencing the lows of camming during summer holiday season, you are not alone! All models, whatever their level of experience, go through these motions at some point during the holiday period. Even the well established models with big following and established regulars, go through this. Their regulars take summer vacays, too. Their regulars often have kids and personal lives, so cannot log on as much as they would at other times. I hope you can take some comfort knowing it is not just you that finds camming during summer holiday season often a drag. On the upside, I firmly believe that in every situation models find it tough on cam, there is always a positive angle to be had. The positive angle is… it is an opportunity to learn and grow. CHANGE THE GAME So here it is… Try something new! Change the game! This could mean trying different shows, changing personal styling or vibe. It might mean changing work schedule to try different hours where you can meet new members. TIP: How about teaming up with a girl friend or a male partner to do fun duo shows? Work together to create a different level of energy that excites members and makes them gravitate. You can also motivate each other to make the slower times feel less painful. There is an abundance of opportunity on cam, no matter how busy or slow it feels. You have no end of scope to experiment. If you think outside the box and nurture your creative side, this is fun and it will sparks the interest of your audience. Cam modelling is a profession and the more skills and adaptability you have, the more professional you get. This means the greater your appeal to even more fans and the higher your chances of making money, even during the slow times! Teaming up with a girl friend adds excitement for members and helps make the chat room busier. CREATIVITY IS EVERYTHING One of the roles I love the most as Cam Model Mentor is putting on my “Creative Director” hat. I love working with models on a one to one basis to give them new ideas. Identifying things they excel at, offering tips on how they can maximise their own assets, suggesting alternative themes they can adopt in their chat rooms. I am always happy to spend time overhauling models’ tip features when they get stuck in a rut. I love coaching them on how they can do this themselves. Regularly switching up tip options has proven time and time again to revive slow chat rooms. Doing this inspires members to interact and tip. As such, I recommend you do this as a matter of good practice, regardless. Once a month, once a fortnight or even weekly. Set new shows and action prizes on tip menu, games, goal shows. Stay upbeat and enthusiastic whilst promoting your new stuff. Maintaining great energy is paramount! I also advise models to run offers like media sales and packages where members can enjoy a bundle of benefits. TIP: You could set a one-off price to offer fans a Snapchat or fan club subscription along with a number of naughty images or a custom video. Bundle this in with a one to one video call, sext session or phone sex session. Add this to your tip menu, promote this during all live shows and make a flyer for your social media to promote this offer. STRENGHTEN YOUR INDENTITY If you’re finding it slow more often than busy on cam, take this as a sign. Perhaps you need to work on your presence and identity as a cam model. Up your game.
